Respite is a term used to mean a short stay in a care home service, this can also be referred to as ‘short stay’.  

A short stay at one of our care homes can sometimes be just the what is needed to provide a much needed break or to regain independence.

Respite care can offer carers and families a break that can be much-needed. Additionally it is also a superb option that can be part of a post-operative care programme. 

Friendly care that is individualised is provided by our care teams who are passionate about delivering attentive and dedicated care.

A short seat with us can help you to make new friends, to regain your confidence, take some time out and also to try new activities.

Our residential care plans include completely personalised relationship-centred care, as well as the opportunity to enjoy a fulfilled life in our modern, luxury facilities.

We understand that every resident has different requirements, which is why we ask all of our residents to complete an “About Me” booklet. This provides our team with a much closer insight into each resident’s physical, emotional and social needs as well as any likes or dislikes, helping us to tailor their care plan to their exact requirements.

As part of their residential care plans, our residents enjoy weekly trips to our very own hair and nail salon, relaxing in our interactive therapy room, enjoying their favourite meals prepared every day by qualified chefs, and much more.

The main difference between residential care and nursing care is that residential care offers day-to-day support provided by carers. Whereas, nursing care offers more complex medical support to those with long-term conditions or illnesses and is provided by registered nurses.

Residential care supports those who wish to maintain their independence but require additional support when carrying out everyday tasks, such as someone with reduced mobility who needs assistance with bathing, dressing or cooking. This can vary from little to more frequent support, where we adapt our residential care based on the choices and personal preferences of each resident.

Nursing care is provided by registered nurses, who are qualified to carry out tasks such as administering medication, wound care and helping those with long-term conditions or illnesses to live more comfortably. To ensure your loved one receives the highest standard of care, our nurses receive continual professional and personal development training.

Our availability for Respite Care varies at different homes throughout the year. With this in mind it is recommended that you make contact in as far advance as possible with the home manager in order to secure accommodation for you.

In the first instance you will need to have a conversation with the care home manager or senior person on duty. They will be able to tell you whether they can provide the appropriate type of care for you or your relative. They will also let you know whether we have the capacity to book the stay in advance or whether you would need to call back nearer the time.  

As mentioned, we are occasionally able to provide the facility to book your respite stay in advance. However, this is not always possible, so please give us a call to discuss what you need and when. If this is the case, you will need to get in touch with the home nearer the time to confirm what is possible and whether accommodation is available for your desired dates.

Many of our residents and short stay residents stay in touch using their own mobile phone (as well of course as in-person visits from your friends and family who can visit you at any time).

We can also help you with video calls should you wish using our in-home iPads with a variety of popular video calling platforms such as Zoom and Facetime.

We also like to keep our residents relatives up to date with the goings on at the homes where we enjoy regular visits from interesting people such as local artists and musicians to animal therapists and beauticians.

Definitely! Your family and friends are welcome to visit you during your stay with us. For safety we have protocols in place for visitors ensuring the safety of residents, team and visitors. This might mean arranging a visit in advance, however as well as the option of telephoning us we do have an online booking system in place family and friends to make arrangements. 

During your stay your room has a set of drawers and a wardrobe for your clothes. Your bed will be fully made up and we will also provide towels for your stay with us. You will, however, need to bring the following:

• Coat/jacket
• Clothes for your stay
• Night clothes / Pyjamas and dressing gown
• Underwear
• Socks, tights or stockings
• Slippers and shoes
• Toothbrush and toiletries
• Any medication you require during your stay
• Any personal electrical appliances (please be aware that these will need to have been PAT tested before arriving)
• Any other small personal items, such as stationery, CDs, books, etc.
